Mocambo Swing is an Italian band formed in Venice, Trieste and Udine in 2004. The band is a border Jazz quintet brought together by a shared passion for mixed genres music. The group members in Mocambo Swing are: Matteo Sgobino, voice and guitar; Alan Malusà Magno, guitar; Francesco Socal, clarinet; Flavio Davanzo, trumpet; Alessandro Turchet, double bass. Particularly fond of Italian singer/songwriters like Paolo Conte, Fred Buscaglione, Renato Carosone, Mocambo Swing developed an energetic and full-blooded sound that mixes elements of the legendary Dixieland bands and improvised modern Jazz with the wonderful world of gypsy folklore music. Their debut album “La Bela Vie”, illustrated by artist Massimiliano Gosparini, includes all original songs, a blend of instrumental pieces in the Ellington style, Klezmer themes, gypsy rhythms inspired by manouche guitarist Django Reinhardt and Italian lyrics revealing stories full of irony.
Their second album “Quando divento grande” was released in 2013 and contains Massimiliano Gosparini’s graphic novel Maudit Bolero, whose name was inspired by the homonymous song included in the album.
Their shows stand out for their energy and unique lyrical ability, paying homage to such international artists as Djando Reinhardt, Duke Ellington, the French mousette and the most famous Klezmer themes. For many years, Mocambo Swing have been tirelessly playing in theatres, jazz clubs and jazz festivals receiving great acclaim from audiences. In 2010, they participated as finalists in the Recanati Musicultura Award and presented their debut album “La Bela Vie” at Udin&Jazz festival, in Udine. In the same year, they have been guests in one of the oldest London Hotel, the Langham Hotel, for a prestigious concert. In 2012, they participated at the Movimentos Festival in Wolfsburg, Germany, whereas in 2013, they played at the Snow Jazz Gastein festival, in Bad Gastein, Austria.
